While I have heard this quest will work with chickens in many places perhaps Saldean's Farm in Westfall is the easiest since the farmer there sells the feed you will need to complete the quest.
Go to Saldean's farm and click on a chicken to target it.
Repeat the line /chicken over and over until you get a message telling you that the "The Chicken looks at you quizzically. Maybe you should inspect it."
Once you get this message click on the chicken and accept the quest.
Purchase some Special Chicken Feed from the farmer and return to the chicken that gave you the quest. Type /chicken followed by /cheer
Once the quest is completed the chicken will lay an egg for a free Prairie Chicken pet.
Creating a Macro to spam the /chicken line helps a lot in completing this quest as you have to repeat the line *many* times to get the chicken to look at you.
