As a mage most people don't ever realize that they have the power to de-curse anyone around them in their faction. In the middle of a battle, especially a raid battle, you must watch everyone's bar to see if a curse pops up. Immediately you must de-curse, because some of those curses can kill off your party members; in some cases that will heal the boss and make him a lot stronger. In a group it is automatically set to where you see curses, diseases, poisons, etc. Curses look different than poisons and magical spells so you will learn to realize which is which. What I recommend doing is going to your interface and enable auto self-cast. Then when you have a curse you do not die with everyone else, and it helps yourself from wasting too much time. Because the more time you waste, the less chance you have of being able to go back with that group again.
